Choosing the Right Fabric for Your Next PR

When it comes to custom uniforms, fabric choice matters just as much as color, cut, or design. The right material can help you stay cool, comfortable, and ready to push through that final kick. At Blue Star, we’re committed to offering performance-driven, American-made fabrics that are built to handle the miles right alongside you.

Here are the 2 fabrics Blue Star uses regularly:

1. Micro Mock Mesh: Our Standard Workhorse

This is the fabric we’ve trusted for years in our track singlets. At 4 oz per yard, Micro Mock Mesh (MMM) strikes the right balance between breathability and durability. It won’t cling to you mid-race, and it holds up to countless washes without losing stride.

2. 6 oz. Spandex: Snug and Strong

Looking for that locked-in, second-skin feel? Our 6 oz. spandex is a fan favorite among both men’s and women’s teams. With just the right balance of snug compression and flexibility, it’s the go-to for athletes who want their gear to move with them, not against them.

We also have the following options available:

Microwick: Light and Eco-Friendly

Microwick is our lightweight, moisture-wicking option that’s perfect for hot days on the track. With UPF 50—the highest rating for sun protection—you’re covered against more than just the competition. Best of all, this fabric is produced with 100% recycled polyester, keeping things sustainable mile after mile.

Quad: Featherweight but Tough

Quad is one of those fabrics that feels light as air but doesn’t back down from heavy use. It’s pick resistant, so you don’t have to worry about snags when the racing gets tight. Think of Quad as your go-to for high mileage athletes who need gear that moves as fast as they do.

Pindot: Breathable and Battle-Ready

With its ventilated structure, Pindot keeps airflow steady, even during grueling workouts. It’s medium weight and pick resistant, making it a reliable choice for training and competition alike. If your team runs hot, this fabric will help keep things cool without sacrificing durability.

Prostretch: Stretch for Speed

When the course calls for freedom of movement, Prostretch delivers. This USA-made fabric blends polyester and spandex for a four-way stretch that adapts to every stride and jump. It’s moisture-wicking too, so you can stretch without the sweat.

8 oz. Spandex: Maximum Compression

Step it up with 8 oz. spandex when you need a heavier, more supportive fit. The added weight gives a bit more structure and compression without sacrificing comfort. Perfect for sprinters, jumpers, or anyone chasing explosive power.

Stretch Microfiber: Wind-Jacket Lightness

This fabric has a sleek, lightweight feel—almost like a windbreaker—without being weatherproof. Made with recycled polyester and spandex, it’s perfect for warm-ups or lighter outerwear. If you’re looking for something that moves effortlessly but still adds a touch of coverage, Stretch Microfiber is the way to go.

Lightweight Fleece: Warmth for Cool Conditions

Every runner knows the sting of early spring or late fall training runs. Our lightweight fleece is designed for those days when you need extra warmth without bulk. It’s brushed inside for comfort, anti-pill on the outside, and just the right weight for layering.

Why Fabric Matters in Custom Singlets

Your singlet isn’t just about team colors—it’s about performance. That’s why all of our fabrics are moisture-wicking, durable, and built for athletes. Add in sublimated customization (no itchy tags, flatlock seams, and sizes that run XS–3XL in men’s and women’s cuts), and you’ve got gear that’s truly built for race day.

Affordable, American-Made Quality

You might think custom uniforms are out of your league—but with Blue Star, they’re not. Our American-made manufacturer helps keep costs low, even as big brands pass tariffs and fees onto customers. We’ve partnered with a second-generation, family-owned shop because they share our values: quality, service, and care for athletes.
